We were delighted to be invited to re-design this lovely shop. The clients thought about refurbishment for some time knowing they don’t make the best use of their retail space. Lucky our first collaboration was very successful and we moved on to the next project.
Located on the Prestwick high street this store was the first one of the three shops we designed for our client MacGregor & Macduff. The Scottish family-run company MacGregor Macduff Kiltmakers is established since 1979. They have been creating bespoke formalwear for local as well as international clients. The brief was to modernise the shop while keeping some traditional elements and a nod to the Scottish heritage.
The layout had to change to make better use of the limited space and improve the customer flow. This shop was very dark so we installed new energy-efficient commercial lighting that then we layered with some industrial style lighting. Both Skela Studio and Macgregor and Macduff are passionate about the use of sustainable materials so we used reclaimed wood for the fixtures and antique display cabinets. Skela Studio’s favourite piece is the antique glass counter. We like the fact that it used to serve the same purpose many years ago and now it’s has a new home. We custom-designed the wooden box structure behind the counter using reclaimed wooden planks as well as the ‘’brackets’’ for the wall fixtures.
We went to do some styling for photos a few months after the store was completed with some styling suggestions and props. We used similar style of props and display for their Pop-up shop in Shoreditch, London earlier in the year.
It was great to chat with the staff and hear that they love the new design for the shop and had very positive feedback from the customers.
